Applying for Library Passes

※Personal Library Pass
The following documents are required when applying for a library pass

When applying for a library pass, the following documents and the application form should be submitted in person to the library staff.

  1. All citizens of the Republic of China should present the original copy of their national identification card, household register, or driver's license.
  2. Foreigners should present the original copy of their valid passport, alien residence certificate, or embassy certificate.
  3. Children under the age of 12 will have their parents or guardians present their identification documents.
  4. When the applicant is unable to apply for the library pass in person, they shall issue a letter of authorization along with the original copies of the identification documents of the applicant and the authorized individual, and have the authorized individual handle the application. However, those able to prove that they are immediate family members or spouses of the applicant with identification documents of both parties are exempt from presenting the letter of authorization.
  5. You can choose to apply for a card-like library pass or use your own Easy Card for the application.

※Family Library Pass
The following documents are required when applying for a library pass

All citizens of the Republic of China should present the original copy of their national identification card and original copy of their household register or the household register transcript from the past three months to apply for a family library pass.

※Class Library Pass
The following documents are required when applying for a library pass

Public and private national junior high schools, elementary schools, and kindergartens should have the teachers submit the original copy of their teacher’s certificate, national identification card, or government registration certificate to apply for the library pass.

The application form mentioned in the previous paragraphs will be destroyed after the library has established and stored a digital version for one year.

※Easy Card Library Pass
Applicants will need to bring their own Easy Cards; Adult Cards, Student Cards, Seniors Cards, People with Disabilities Cards, digital student IDs, and Easy Card credit cards that can be read by card readers will be accepted. Easy Card Library Passes can only be used as personal library passes, and not as family or class library passes.

※Virtual Library Pass
According to the Instructions of the National Taiwan Library’s Virtual Library Pass, the virtual library pass is an access account for readers to use the library’s digital resources; no physical library pass will be issued. Those who do not need to go to the library to borrow paper books or use the physical resources of the library can choose to apply for a virtual library pass. Readers who need to borrow paper books should bring the original copy of their identification documents to the library to obtain a physical library pass.

 

※Upgrade of Personal Library Passes
According to the Implementation Plan for Reader Rewards of the Library, qualified readers are eligible to upgrade to Platinum Library Passes

The number of borrowed books is increased from 20 to 30 books.

 ※Service Hours and Location for Applying for Library Passes
During opening hours of the library (Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 21:00)

※Application Method for Library Passes
1. Apply in person immediately upon request (children under the age of 12 will need their parents or guardians to apply for the library pass with their identification documents).

2. Authorized application: when the applicant is unable to apply for the library pass in person, they should issue a letter of authorization and have the authorized individual present the original copy of their identification documents to handle the application. Those able to prove that they are immediate family members or spouses of the applicant with identification documents of both parties are exempt from presenting the letter of authorization.

※Validity Period of Library Passes

1. The validity period of personal library passes, family library passes, and virtual library passes is five years.

2. The validity period of class library passes is one year.

3. The validity period of library passes for individuals from Mainland China and foreigners is the same as their duration of stay, and the library pass can be renewed if the duration of stay has been extended.

 

※How to Extend the Validity Period of Library Passes

1. On-site: individuals will need to bring the original library pass and identification documents to the Circulation Services Counter on the 1st Floor to apply for extension and update of information.

2. Online: individuals will need to send the electronic files of identification documents to cir@mail.ntl.edu.tw; the subject of the e-mail should be “Applying for an Extension of the Validity of the Library Pass.”

 

※Other Matters
Each individual (household/unit) can only apply for one library pass, and is not allowed to lend the library pass to other individuals (households/units) for usage. If there are any changes to the application materials, corrections should be made with the library.

If the library pass is lost, it must be reported to the library immediately. If the library suffers losses due to fraudulent use of the library pass, the original holder or the parent or guardian of the child shall be responsible for compensation of the losses. When applying for a replacement library pass, those who hand in their original library pass won’t have to pay additional fees; the cost for reissuing library passes is NT$50. Application subjects: readers who have not yet applied for a library pass.
