The National Taiwan Library (NTL) held “The Song of Mountains, Forests and Sea: Tomáš Řízek Solo Exhibition” from 19 February to 14 April, 2019 in the Taiwan Art and Culture Gallery on the first floor of the NTL. The exhibition’s opening ceremony took place at 10:30 am on 20 February and was led by Mr. Cheng, Lai-Chang, the Director of NTL. More than 70 guests attended the function, including Mr. Patrick Rumlar, the Representative of Czech Economic and Cultural Office Taipei and the author Ms. Chialu Dargaw. Additionally, in order to commemorate this solemn moment of cross-culture and international cooperation, Mr. Řízek donated one of his original paintings to the NTL.

The exhibition was itself about a combination of western painting techniques and indigenous story telling. Tomáš Řízek is a famous contemporary artist and illustrator. He has been in Taiwan for many years and has really interacted with and grown to understand the local culture, thereby creating a fresh new flavor of art and culture based on this interaction. These paintings have created a new flavor of Taiwanese indigenous culture for both youth and old.

NTL will hold a series of workshops during the special exhibition including painting with tempera and how to create amazing picture books:
1. Painting Workshop I - The Song of Mountains, Forests and Sea: 2-4 pm, 9 March, 2019 @ Room 4045
