Look into the South ─ The Book Exhibition of Taiwan Studies Collection
Opening ceremony & Lecture May 5, 2015 National Taiwan Library (hereinafter referred to as NTL) is about to open for the first time of her very precious collection, the Southern Achieves Center. Before the Second World War, the Japanese planned to conduct a detailed research and investigation among Southeast Asia area. The Southern Achieves Center was then establishment in 1940. It has been remained the collection of Taiwan Governor's Foreign Affairs Department and other related units’ collection. This year coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Taiwan Study Research Center, NTL organized the "Look into the South” exhibition that is of nearly a century of comprehensive information on the Southeast Asia. The information includes French ruled Indochina (now Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia), Thailand, Myanmar, British ruled Malay (now Malaysia, Singapore), Dutch ruled East India (now Indonesia), the Philippines, and even extended to New Zealand, Australia, India and other places,. There are in a total of about 40,000 volumes. In addition, NTL also invited a scholar who dedicated her research in this filed to give a speech, Dr. Zhong Shumin with Academia Sinica Institute of Taiwan History. The topic is "from the southern point of the empire to look into the South". We invite everyone to join us.
