National Taiwan Library (NTL) was founded in 1914. It was known as the Imperial Taiwan Library during the period of Japanese rule. NTL is the oldest public library in Taiwan. NTL has a rich collection of books and reference materials inherited from the Taiwan Governor’s Office during this Japanese rule period, especially literature materials suitable for Taiwan research. Regardless of data quantity and research value, this is regarded as an important site for Taiwan research amongst domestic libraries. The center is recognized as providing abundant resources for long-term international and domestic researchers. On March, 21 2007, the Ministry of Education issued an urgent request to speed up the completion of the ‘Taiwan Study Research Center’, so that it may provide needed resources worldwide. The center may also provide research material to support teaching, and to teach further development in research, which was one of the main purposes behind establishing this research center.
